Submission FAQs

Why do you ask for a submission application in addition to the manuscript? This allows us to learn about your book quickly so we can respond to you in a timely manner. We use a form instead of requesting the typical query letter to hopefully make this process easier for both you and us.

Do you have a style guide that submitted books should follow? No, we prefer to work with writers’ individual styles. If your book is accepted, then we will discuss your style requirements during the editing steps.

Editing FAQs

What are the editing steps? This depends on the project, but typically there are 3 main editing steps: structural, copy editing, and proofreading. Like in woodcarving, the steps in editing get more detailed and fine as we advance through the process. We keep in close contact with authors during each of these steps to make sure the changes made are true to the intentions of the work.

Structural: This is the time to make big changes if there are any sections that need to be moved around, taken out, rewritten, and/or added.

Copy Editing: This involves checking spelling and grammar, as well as the flow of the text. Rewriting for clarity at the sentence or paragraph level is possible.

Proofreading: This step occurs after typesetting (formatting your book for publication) and consists of little edits to fix spelling errors, small grammatical errors, and layout/formatting issues. At this point, bigger edits cannot be made because that would shift the layout and formatting done during typesetting, and the potential for introducing more errors is high.

I already had my work edited before sending it to you; does it need more editing? Yes, although the number of steps and amount of editing needed may be greatly reduced. We work with authors to determine what the work needs specifically; no two projects are the same. Proofreading after typesetting is always required.
